The Final Retrieve

The Rainbows Bridge PoemOur condolences to Brian and Mary Dunlevy on the loss of their beloved Jubal (HRCH Riptide Jubilee MHR 1996 – 2010).

0 RIPTIDE JUBILEE MHR 1996 - 2010
My Dear Friend Jubal, you are now free of the pain and misery of old age and the restrictions of this life. We let you go with reluctance and an unbelievable sense of loss. Our grief is great, but consolation is found in the acceptance that you are in a better place.

The rainbow bridge is behind you now and you are free to hunt the fields and marshes of GLORY. We know in our hearts that you are once again reunited with your beloved first owner Jerald McKedy and the two of you are once again inseparable.

First, Mary and I would like to thank Jeff Chesnut at Washita Retrievers and his entire family for allowing Jubal to come into our lives. Jubal was left to Jeff when his friend and training partner Jerald McKedy passed away in 1999. Jeff put the final passes on Jubal to achieve his MHR shortly after Jerald passed and Jubal retired from the Hunt Test game and became a stud dog. Jubal came to us in 2003, Boomer (a Jubal Puppy) had just gone into training with Washita Retrievers and our 14 year old retriever "Cowboy" passed away at Christmas. Jeff offered to let me use Jubal to hunt with as were without a hunting dog. Hunting season ended and Jubal stayed on to run a "couple" of tests. We ran our first test together at Four States in 2003, I was so nervous I was sick. Jubal put me on his back and carried me through. I WAS HOOKED! I was learning and Jubal was out of retirement and back to training and running tests again. What HOOT!

Jubal was a very bad creeper, sometimes 25-30 feet. He could circle the bucket twice, creep 20 feet, re-heel himself, while the birds were in the air and front foot the marks. We failed a lot more that we passed at the Finished level. The judges would admit "love the drive" but they just would not hunt with that dog at the end of the day. We worked hard, traveled the southwest, test after test , pass one fail 2 or 3, finally we achieved the coveted HRCH Title at the East Arkansas HRC test in 2005, hell I had to wear a Red Razorback Pig Hat while they doused Jubal and I (thanks Travis). Jubal retired from the Hunt Test game for the second time that day and never ran another test in contention.

Second, we want to Thank HRCH Riptide Jubilee MHR, you were truly a special dog, you taught me more about this game than all the books, DVD's, and seminars I could purchase in a lifetime. The hours on the road and in the blind will always be cherished. You were our first trained retriever and we will miss you greatly, but will remember you in our hearts forever, every time Boomer creeps I think of you, every time I load the decoys you will be with me.

PLEASE TAKE CARE MY FRIEND

NOW YOU CAN CREEP TO NO END
UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN
